February
The parts gathering starts.
First, an older 6 channel Airtronics PCM
radio was found on eBay. Next, four 18V cordless
drills were purchased from 5StarDeal.com,
along with some extra nicads packs. A couple
of 2ohm power resistors were grabbed off
of eBay for testing the currently capacity
of the batteries. A couple of windshield
wiper motors were found at a scrap yard that
would server as the power behind our lifter.
We also scavenged four Colsons off a cart
that happened to be so equipped.
Testing newly acquired components
We soon realized that the nicads that came
with the cordless drills could not supply
the high current demands necessary for a
combat robot. We then set out to find an
alternative battery. We settled on three
6V 4AH SLAs (Sealed Lead Acid) in series
to provide power. These appear to provide
plenty of instantaneous power and higher
capacity.
